The Story Behind the Movement
World With Women is a powerful global movement dedicated to amplifying the voices of women and driving tangible social change. To scale their impact, they needed more than just a website; they needed a dedicated engagement platform where supporters could easily register, commit to the movement, and access the resources needed to become effective advocates.
However, building a platform for a global, diverse audience comes with a profound responsibility: inclusivity. If the platform isn’t accessible to everyone—regardless of ability, device, or technical literacy—it excludes the very people the movement aims to empower. The challenge was to create a digital space that was not only functional but radically accessible, ensuring that every woman could participate fully and with dignity.
The Challenge
How do you build a unified platform that serves diverse stakeholders and remains accessible to all?
The project involved complex dynamics and high stakes:
- The Accessibility Imperative: As a movement for all women, the platform had to meet the highest standards of accessibility (WCAG). Any barrier here would contradict the mission itself.
- The Communication Gap: Multiple stakeholders were involved: the Executive Leadership, the Communications team, and the Development partners. Each had different priorities and vocabularies. Without a clear translator, the design risked becoming fragmented or misaligned with the core mission.
- The Engagement Goal: The platform needed to do more than inform; it had to drive action. Users needed to seamlessly register, pledge their support, and download advocacy toolkits without friction.
- Unified Vision: Translating the emotional power of the movement into a clear, functional digital journey required balancing inspiring copywriting with rigorous UX logic.
The goal was to design a central hub for advocacy that was intuitive, inclusive, and technically robust, while ensuring all stakeholders were aligned every step of the way.
Our Approach & Methodology
As the Product Designer and Strategic Bridge, our role extended beyond pixels. We acted as the connector between vision, voice, and code.
1. Acting as the Strategic Interpreter
We facilitated collaboration between the Executive Leadership, Communications Team, and Developers.
- Translating Vision to UX: We interpreted the leadership’s strategic goals into concrete user flows, ensuring the design reflected the movement’s gravity and ambition.
- Aligning Copy & Design: We worked closely with the Comms team to integrate powerful, mission-driven copywriting directly into the UI, ensuring the tone was consistent and motivating at every touchpoint.
- Feasibility & Handoff: We partnered with developers from day one to ensure our accessibility-first designs were technically viable, preventing costly rework later.
2. Accessibility as a Foundation, Not an Afterthought
Accessibility was the non-negotiable core of our design process.
- Inclusive Research: We designed with diverse abilities in mind from the very first wireframe, considering screen readers, keyboard navigation, and colour contrast ratios.
- WCAG Compliance: The entire platform was built to meet strict WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) standards, ensuring usability for people with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive disabilities.
- Clear, Simple Language: To support cognitive accessibility, we simplified complex instructions and ensured all calls-to-action were unambiguous.
3. Designing for Action & Engagement
We mapped a user journey that minimised friction and maximised commitment.
- Seamless Registration: We streamlined the sign-up process, removing unnecessary fields to encourage higher conversion rates.
- Resource Hub: We created an intuitive, searchable library where advocates can easily find and download the specific documents and toolkits they need for their local campaigns.
- Clear Commitment Flows: The "Pledge" or "Engage" steps were designed to feel significant and rewarding, reinforcing the user’s connection to the movement.
4. Iterative Collaboration
Through regular workshops and reviews, we ensured that every decision—from the colour palette to the form validation messages—was validated by both the leadership’s vision and the technical team’s constraints.
The Real-World Impact
The result is a unified, accessible platform that truly serves the World With Women community.
- True Inclusivity Achieved: The platform now welcomes users of all abilities, aligning the digital experience with the movement’s core values of equality and inclusion.
- Stakeholder Alignment: By acting as the interpreter between teams, we eliminated silos. The final product is a cohesive blend of strategic vision, compelling storytelling, and robust code.
- Increased Engagement: The simplified registration and clear resource pathways have made it easier for supporters to join the movement and take immediate action.
- Empowered Advocates: Users can now confidently access the tools they need to drive change in their own communities, without being blocked by confusing interfaces or inaccessible content.

The Result: We delivered more than just a platform; we built a digital home for advocacy that is as inclusive and powerful as the movement itself. By prioritising accessibility and fostering deep collaboration between leaders, communicators, and developers, we ensured that World With Women can scale its impact without leaving anyone behind.
